For those wild about skiing and snowboarding, Colorado opens its doors as early as October. With nearly two dozen major ski resorts, Colorado attracts over 12 million winter sport guests every year. A few of the biggest reasons: snow may last for three quarters of the year, over 32 thousand acres of skiing terrain and six Colorado ski resorts that rank among the nation's top ten.
Pictured here is the Arapahoe Basin, affectionately called The Legend. With the highest ski terrain in North America, its slopes open by mid October and sometimes hold snow into early July. The A-Basin summit tops 13,000 feet and sets up a vertical drop over 2200 feet, producing its longest run of a mile-and-a-half. With multiple lifts and conveyors, over 10,000 skiers are able to reach the top every hour. Cafes, grills, rental and retail shops, and warming huts are placed throughout the resort, accommodating nearly every taste and desire. Ski school is offered for skiers and snowboarders of every ability, from never-evers to powder bashers. Sport or high performance equipment rentals are available to suit anyone's needs. Now is the time to head to the A-Basin.
Here in the Front Range on the Continental Divide, Arapahoe Basin collects over 350 inches of snowfall annually ... the BIG reason Colorado is number one in skiing.
